Why East & Southeast Mallorca Is a Perfect Yacht Charter Area
This region is particularly well suited to guests who want each day to revolve around swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding, relaxed lunches, and short passages between contrasting anchorages. The coastline is deeply indented, allowing several coves and coastal towns to be incorporated into a single day without turning the itinerary into a race around the island.
The central east coast offers an excellent mixture of established harbours and wild scenery. Porto Cristo provides marina access, dining, and major shore excursions, while nearby Cala Anguila, Cala Mendia, Cala Romàntica, and Cala Varques reveal the limestone bays for which eastern Mallorca is best known. Cala Varques remains notably undeveloped, enclosed by low cliffs and pine-covered vegetation without buildings immediately surrounding the beach.
Portocolom provides one of the east coast’s most attractive and protected natural harbours. Traditional fishing boats, yachts, waterfront buildings, a lighthouse, and quiet neighbouring coves give it a more authentic atmosphere than many of Mallorca’s larger resorts.
Farther south, Cala d’Or offers marina facilities, restaurants, and easy access to a dense collection of narrow turquoise coves. Portopetro provides a quieter fishing-port setting beside Mondragó Natural Park, where pine forests, wild olive groves, wetlands, rocky coastline, and sandy beaches have been preserved from the intensive development found elsewhere along the eastern shore.
The area is suitable for catamarans, sailing yachts, and motor yachts, although marina dimensions, anchorage depth, summer traffic, wind direction, and local environmental protections will influence the final route. An experienced captain can alternate between lively ports and quieter coves according to conditions each day.
